Selecting the Best Pest Professional
“Missy Henriksen with the National Pest Management Association shares some recommendations on selecting the best pest professional to keep you, your family and your home safe from pests.”
“Certain home maintenance jobs are best left to the professionals, and pest management is one of them.
Hi, I’m Missy Henriksen from the National Pest Management Association, here to give you some recommendations on selecting the best pest professional to keep you, your family, and your home, safe from pests.
Only consider pest control professionals that are licensed, and members of national, state, or local Pest Management Associations.
These companies have access to the most up-to-date education and information.
Ask friends and neighbors to recommend companies they’ve used with success.
When the technician arrives at your home, consider asking to see his credentials.
If a sizable amount of money is involved, get bids from several pest management companies.
But keep in mind, you want to buy based on value, and not price.
Beware of companies that offer bargains that sound too good to be true, or pressure you to make a rushed decision.
Since you’re paying for professional pest control knowledge, look for someone whose judgment you can trust.
Before signing a contract, be sure to fully understand the nature of the pest the technician will be controlling, the extent of the infestation, and the work necessary to solve the problem.
To be safe, find out if the pest control company is insured in case there’s an accident.
If the company provides a guarantee, know what it covers, how long it lasts, what you must do to keep it in force, and what kind of continuing control, prevention, and inspections are necessary.
Homeowners can check with your local Better Business Bureau or call state pest management regulatory agencies for information regarding the status of professional pest control companies.
In most states, the regulatory agency is the State Department of Agriculture.
With these steps, you’ll be sure to find the right pest control professional to combat all of your pest management problems.”
